Summary This position is located at the PHS Indian Hospital, Pine Ridge SD. The position performs primary functions of a professional nurse supervisor in assessing, planning, implementing, directing and evaluating the care of patients in the Specialty Clinic. The incumbent is responsible for meeting the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services regulations; managing all assigned personnel, supplies and equipment on the unit, developing and implementing patient care policies/training. - Implements Patient Centered Medical Home Model within the unit. This includes pre-planning of visits, use of ICARE tool for population management, assigning patient outreach, data sharing regarding team status/progress to administration and IHS Headquarters use of community resources and patient self management resources, and promotion of care team relationship building.
- The incumbent plans work to be accomplished by subordinates and prepares schedules for completion of work; assigns work to subordinates based on priorities and capabilities of employees; evaluates work performance of subordinates; advise or counsel employees on work and administrative matters; interview candidates for positions, recommend appointments, promotions or reassignment to such positions; hear and resolve complaints from employees; effect minor disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands; identify training needs of employees; approve leave, etc.
- Participates in the planning, implementation, coordination and evaluation of nursing and personnel educational activities that directly and indirectly affect patient care outcomes.
- Plans and coordinated the work operations of the clinics with programmatic responsibility, such as policy and procedure development and reviews, quality improvement development implementation and evaluation, infection control and other related supervisory functions.
- Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or
- At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program.
