Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Java applications that process PDF documents at the content stream level, focusing on precise text fitting, font manipulation, and layout optimization.
• Implement sophisticated algorithms for text fitting, character spacing calculations, and text rendering to achieve consistent outputs across different PDF viewers.
• Work with iText/PDFBox libraries to create customized PDF solutions that meet specific client requirements.
• Ensure document accessibility by developing and implementing auto-tagging solutions that comply with Section 508 and WCAG standards.
• Collaborate with the team to identify and resolve technical issues, optimizing performance for large documents and complex processing tasks.
• Participate in code reviews, contributing to the improvement of the codebase and adherence to best practices.
• Engage in unit testing and quality assurance practices to ensure the delivery of high-quality software products.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

• 3-5 years of professional Java development experience, with a strong command of Java 8+ features and core libraries.
• Hands-on experience with PDF manipulation libraries, particularly iText and PDFBox.
• Proficiency in developing solutions for auto-tagging PDF documents to enhance accessibility and achieve compliance with Section 508 standards.
• Experience with build tools such as Maven/Gradle and version control systems like Git.
• Solid understanding of document processing fundamentals, including character encoding, font systems, and text rendering.
• Knowledge of accessibility standards, including 508 compliance and WCAG.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Additional certifications in Java or PDF technologies.
• Experience with performance optimization techniques for large-scale document processing.
• Familiarity with agile development methodologies and collaborative development environments.
