Campaign Lead on AFA-CWA Delta Flight Attendant Organizing Drive | Los Angeles, California at COMMUNICATIONS WORKERS OF AMERICA Los Angeles, CA

Remote · USA Full-time New today

The Communications Workers of America (CWA) is a prominent labor union that represents a diverse membership of workers across various industries in the United States. With a strong commitment to advocating for the rights of workers, CWA has been instrumental in organizing efforts, collective bargaining, and promoting fair labor standards. The union is known for its active role in helping workers achieve better wages, improved working conditions, and enhanced benefits. Located in Los Angeles, California, the AFA-CWA Delta Flight Attendant Organizing Drive represents a critical campaign aimed at empowering Delta Air Lines flight attendants. This campaign is currently the largest union organizing effort in the country, involving 28,000 Delta Flight Attendants who seek to gain a voice, respect, and fairness on the job through a union election conducted under the Railway Labor Act. Delta Air Lines stands out as the only major U.S.-based mainline carrier whose flight attendants are not unionized, making this organizing drive historically significant. The AFA-CWA, in coalition with the International Association of Machinists (IAM) and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT), strives to organize a total of 50,000 workers to build solidarity and collective bargaining power. Delta's headquarters is in Atlanta, Georgia, though a substantial number of flight attendants are based in Los Angeles, providing a strategic location for these organizing efforts. The Campaign Lead position based in Los Angeles plays a pivotal role in this expansive and impactful labor movement. This is a full-time, hybrid role offering a salary range between $75,457.81 and $95,748.41 annually, designed for experienced organizers passionate about labor rights and skilled in campaign leadership. The role involves up to 50% travel, primarily to various work locations and organizational meetings, making flexibility and mobility essential attributes. Those hired will work intensively with flight attendants to assess support for unionization, recruit and facilitate committee members, and utilize innovative organizing tactics such as home visits, phone campaigns, and hand billing. This position demands a motivated self-starter capable of working both independently and collaboratively with campaign staff and committee members. Campaign Leads are expected to contribute significantly to the campaign’s momentum by managing committees, driving worker commitments, and continuously assessing progress and challenges. Strong communication skills, conflict management, and an ability to engage diverse populations are key components of success in this role. Bilingual abilities are considered a strong asset, reflecting the diverse demographics of the flight attendant workforce. The Campaign Lead will also take part in training responsibilities at organizer institutes, development and implementation of local organizing plans, and support national and district organizing priorities. This opportunity offers a chance to make a lasting impact in the labor movement by advancing the rights of thousands of frontline workers in a historic and vital campaign. In addition, the role fosters a diverse and equitable work environment, encouraging applications from women, people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, and others from underrepresented groups, reflecting the union’s commitment to inclusion and social justice.

  • willingness to travel up to 50%
