GXM is seeking a Technical Writer to support the development, maintenance, and delivery of enterprise-level technical documentation for systems currently under development in support of government programs. The selected candidate will work collaboratively with various in-house and external technical teams to produce clear, accurate, and compliant documentation in accordance with program requirements and established standards.

This is a part-time position, averaging approximately 20 hours per week, with flexibility based on program needs for surge requirements when necessary. The role requires a mid-level professional capable of working independently while contributing to a larger program with cross-functional teams. This position may support efforts requiring eligibility for a security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, edit, and maintain technical documentation, including system documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), user guides, and technical reports
  • Collaborate with engineers, developers, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather, analyze, and validate technical information
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and accessible documents in the defined format, by the timeline established and at the quality level articulated
  • Ensure documentation complies with program standards, style guides, and contractual requirements
  • Support documentation planning activities, including identifying documentation requirements and organizing content structure
  • Maintain documentation repositories and ensure proper version control
  • Incorporate diagrams, flowcharts, and other visual aids to enhance documentation clarity and usability
Requirements

Required

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be U.S.-based
  • Must be willing and able to pass a background check
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
  • 3–6 years of technical writing experience supporting technical or software-based systems
  • Experience developing documentation for complex or enterprise-level systems
  • Strong technical writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Experience with documentation tools (e.g, Confluence, SharePoint, MadCap Flare, or similar)

Desired

  • Experience supporting federal government programs
  • Familiarity with Agile or iterative development environments
  • Experience producing documentation in compliance-driven or regulated environments
  • Experience developing visual documentation artifacts (e.g., system diagrams, workflows, architecture overviews)
  • Active or recent security clearance
