Job title: Substitute Teacher Company: Navajo Preparatory School Inc Job description: PURPOSE OF POSITION To perform instructional duties in the absence of the teacher. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Required Qualifications High School diploma or high school equivalency certificate. NM Substitute Teaching License. Must be 21 years of age for grades 9-12. Completion of substitution training workshop(s) and online trainings. Preferred Experience Minimum of three years of successful experience as classroom teacher in a secondary level school. Required Skills A passion for learning and teaching; international-minded. Ability to deliver lesson plan which stimulates and motivates students to learn. Positive Attitude. Effective communication skills with students, parents and the general public. Good oral and written communication skills. Calmness under pressure. Resilience, commitment and confidence. Desired Knowledge Basic knowledge, understanding, and respect for the Navajo language, history, and culture. Appreciation of the philosophy of student's residential and day school experience. Navajo/Indian preference: Consideration for employment will be given to Navajo, American Indian or Alaskan Tribal member with the required documentation including the necessary qualifications to meet the minimum requirements of the position. The Navajo/Indian preference law shall apply in all aspects of the position. EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION The position is placed on the approved NPS Professional Salary Schedule.
