With a heritage of more than a century in banking and a forward‑thinking approach to cyber security, arenaflex blends deep industry expertise with cutting‑edge machine learning and artificial intelligence. Our mission is to protect millions of customers worldwide while delivering seamless, secure digital experiences. As a member of the arenaflex family, you will work alongside visionary thinkers, seasoned engineers, and security specialists who are all committed to building a safer financial ecosystem.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Remote Data Engineer to join our Cyber ML/AI team. In this role you will design, develop, and maintain data pipelines that ingest, transform, and analyze security‑related data across multiple sources. Your work will directly influence the detection of cyber‑threat anomalies, improve threat‑intelligence models, and strengthen arenaflex’s overall security posture. This is a fully remote opportunity (with a preference for candidates located in or near Los Angeles, USA) offering a competitive hourly rate of $33‑$40.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines that integrate data from relational databases, NoSQL stores, APIs, and log files.
  • Collaborate with cyber security analysts to translate business requirements into technical data solutions that support anomaly detection and threat hunting.
  • Develop and maintain data models and schemas tailored to security event data, ensuring data quality, consistency, and compliance with internal governance standards.
  • Perform complex data analysis to uncover patterns, relationships, and outliers that may indicate security incidents or emerging threats.
  • Produce clear, actionable documentation and visualizations (using PowerBI, Tableau, Splunk, or similar tools) that communicate findings to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Participate in cross‑functional design reviews, providing data‑engineering expertise to shape architecture decisions and security‑centric feature development.
  • Mentor junior engineers and share best practices around data ingestion, transformation, and security‑focused analytics.
  • Stay current with industry trends in cyber security, machine learning, and data engineering, recommending innovative approaches to enhance arenaflex’s security analytics platform.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years of professional data engineering experience, demonstrated through work history, military service, or relevant training.
  • Proficiency in Python (or a comparable high‑level language such as Java or C#) for building data pipelines and automation scripts.
  • Solid understanding of relational database concepts, SQL query optimization, and experience with at least one major RDBMS (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle).
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage priorities, and meet deadlines without direct supervision.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred (Desired) Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of data analysis experience within the financial services sector, preferably focused on security‑related datasets.
  • Exposure to cyber security concepts such as threat intelligence, incident response, or security operations.
  • Hands‑on experience with data visualization platforms like PowerBI, Tableau, Splunk, or similar tools to create dashboards and reports.
  • Experience building end‑to‑end data engineering pipelines that ingest data from diverse sources (databases, RESTful APIs, streaming services, etc.).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and modern data orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, Dagster).
  • Knowledge of machine learning pipelines and the ability to collaborate with data scientists on model training and deployment.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical mindset: Ability to dissect large, complex datasets and extract meaningful security insights.
  • Problem‑solving: Comfortable tackling ambiguous challenges, researching solutions, and making data‑driven decisions.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal skills to convey technical concepts to non‑technical audiences and produce clear documentation.
  • Collaboration: Proven track record of working effectively with cross‑functional teams, including security analysts, product managers, and senior engineers.
  • Attention to detail: Commitment to data integrity, security compliance, and rigorous testing of pipelines.
  • Continuous learning: Enthusiasm for staying up‑to‑date with emerging cyber threats, data engineering tools, and AI/ML advancements.
