Your work will directly influence the quality, stability, and performance of the viewing experience for millions of users, ensuring that every frame, every second, and every interaction meets the highest standards of excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Module Development: Write clean, maintainable, and test‑driven code for client‑side modules using industry‑standard best practices.
  • Innovation & Optimization: Drive continuous improvement initiatives for playback performance, adaptive bitrate algorithms, and error‑handling mechanisms.
  • Project Planning & Execution: Contribute to sprint planning, roadmap definition, and agile ceremonies, ensuring timely delivery of high‑impact features.
  • Technical Mentorship: Guide junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and foster a culture of knowledge sharing within the media playback team.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement robust testing strategies, including unit, integration, and end‑to‑end tests, to guarantee a predictable and reliable streaming experience.
  • Documentation & Communication: Produce clear technical documentation and present architectural decisions to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience developing with Roku SceneGraph and BrightScript.
  • At least 3 years of hands‑on experience working with HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) or MPEG‑DASH adaptive streaming protocols.
  • Deep understanding of media container formats, including HLS, Transport Stream, and CMAF (Common Media Application Format).
  • Proven ability to write clean, modular, and well‑documented code following industry best practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating in cross‑functional, agile environments.

  • Familiarity with cloud‑based content delivery networks (CDNs) and edge computing concepts.
  • Knowledge of DRM systems (Widevine, PlayReady, FairPlay) and secure key management.
  • Background in performance profiling, latency reduction, and resource optimization for embedded devices.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and DevOps practices.
  • Passion for emerging media technologies such as 4K/8K streaming, HDR, and immersive formats (VR/AR).

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Excellence: Mastery of programming languages relevant to the Roku ecosystem (BrightScript, SceneGraph) and a solid grasp of C/C++ or JavaScript for auxiliary components.
  • Problem‑Solving Mindset: Ability to diagnose complex playback issues, propose innovative solutions, and iterate quickly.
  • Collaboration: Strong teamwork orientation, with a track record of building productive relationships across product, design, and operations teams.
  • Customer‑Centric Focus: Commitment to delivering a flawless user experience, understanding the impact of playback quality on viewer satisfaction.
  • Adaptability: Comfort working in a fast‑paced environment where priorities shift based on market trends and user feedback.
