The Senior Software Engineering Manager is a senior-level leadership role responsible for overseeing multiple software development teams, driving departmental strategy, and ensuring the alignment of software projects with organizational goals. They play a pivotal role in setting departmental goals and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence. Essential Functions: Manage and lead multiple software engineering teams, setting clear objectives and priorities that align with departmental and organizational goals. Directs the system development lifecycle including the design, coding, testing, documentation, installation, maintenance, and support of proprietary and/or purchased software systems/applications. Responsible for systems performance and quality assurance testing policies and procedures. Ensures testing and documentation satisfies customer expectations. Make decisions regarding application enhancements as necessary. Define and execute departmental strategies, including resource allocation, budgeting, and technology adoption. Collaborate with other department heads and executives to ensure that software initiatives align with the overall company strategy. Foster a culture of innovation and technical excellence within the software engineering department. Mentor and coach software managers and leaders within the organization, providing guidance and growth opportunities. Oversee complex software projects, monitor progress, and address challenges to ensure successful project outcomes. Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to drive continuous improvement within the department. Participate in hiring and onboarding, setting and evaluating performance goals to identify, attract, and retain top talent. Conduct performance reviews, career development planning, and succession planning. Developing risk mitigation strategies and ensuring compliance with industry regulations and internal policies. Good understanding and working knowledge of newer technologies like cloud, mobile, Analytics, any certification will be advantageous. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in related field or an equivalent combination of professional experience and/or training required 10+ years of experience in software development, with at least 2 years’ experience directly managing people, including hiring, developing, motivating, and directing people as they work. Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures, API’s and distributed systems. Deep understanding of Microservices architecture, Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices, API design and distributed systems, Observability and monitoring solutions. Proven ability to lead technical discussions and architecture reviews. Proven record of accomplishment of managing and leading software teams. Strong strategic planning and project management skills.
