Mechanical Engineer 3 (NSSS Component Engineering Analysis)

NOTE: THIS POSITION IS AVAILABLE FOR REMOTE WORK WITHIN THE CONTIGUOUS UNITED STATES, WITH TRAVEL AS REQUIRED FOR BUSINESS NEEDS. POSITION SUMMARY: The Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) Component Engineering organization generates technical requirements and associated design parameters for the modular advanced light water reactor (ALWR) NSSS. Utilizing proven state-of-the-art methodologies, NSSS components are engineered to nuclear industry standards. The person in this position performs design and stress analyses of pressure vessels, reactor vessel internals, and/or primary equipment supports in accordance with ASME BPVC Section III and applicable regulatory requirements. All work within the NSSS Component Engineering organization is completed under ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements and respective U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidelines. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs and documents evaluations of components to the rules and requirements of Section III of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code including but not limited to analysis of components for pressure, mechanical/thermal loadings including Primary Stress, Primary plus Secondary stress intensity range, and Fatigue. Utilizes the results from these evaluations to optimize component(s) design.
  • Direct experience with ANSYS finite element software and CAD packages.
  • Interprets scope and project requirements.
  • Acquires, maintains and develops training qualifications.
  • Interacts with co-workers and other disciplines to promote effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems. Individuals should be interested in acquiring general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields in order to function on multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:

  • Education: A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, from a four year ABET accredited college or university is required. An advanced degree is preferred. A professional engineer (P.E.) certification is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 6 years of full-time relevant working experience is required. Candidates must have experience utilizing ANSYS to perform stress analysis in accordance with Section III of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Subsections NB, NG, and/or NF. Additional experience in the following areas is desired:
  • Seismic/dynamic analysis.
  • Computer programming skills (e.g., ANSYS APDL, Matlab, Python).
  • Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

Pay and Benefits: The target pay range for this position is $108,908 - $131,441 annually. The full pay range is $97,642 - $152,722 annually.
