[Remote] Occupational Safety and Health Data Analyst
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. ERG is a research and consulting firm that provides a wide range of support to federal, state, and commercial clients. They are seeking a curious, detail-oriented analyst to support national occupational safety and health programs by analyzing and classifying real-world workplace injury and illness data.
Responsibilities
- Review workplace injury, illness, and fatality records and apply standardized case‑classification codes using the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Occupational Injury and Illness Classification System (OIICS)
- Exercise thoughtful, independent judgment to accurately classify complex or ambiguous cases while maintaining speed and consistency
- Draft brief, clear incident narratives that summarize the circumstances of each case in plain, concise language
- Manage multiple work queues and deadlines while maintaining high quality and attention to detail
- Collaborate regularly with team members and senior analysts for guidance, quality checks, and knowledge sharing
- Contribute to documentation, process improvements, and evolving analytical practices over time
Skills
- A bachelor's degree in communications, health/environmental science, statistics, or related field
- Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail, with the ability to apply rules consistently
- Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely
- Outstanding time-management and organizational skills with the ability to work independently in a remote environment to accomplish assignments in a timely manner
- Experience or strong interest in data analysis, public health, occupational safety, epidemiology, or related fields
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint)
- Willingness and ability to learn new software and technical skills as required
- Experience with structured classification or coding systems (e.g., OIICS, ICD, or similar)
- Experience or coursework in data analysis or data management
- Familiarity with SAS, R, Power BI, Qlik, or other analytical tools
- Prior exposure to occupational health, injury or illness surveillance, or public health research
