[Remote] Senior Embedded Engineer - (Remote - San Diego or Los Angelos Area only)
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. dormakaba is seeking a Senior Embedded Engineer to join their team in a remote role based in Southern California. In this position, you will lead the firmware architecture and development for next-generation access control readers and credential solutions while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure successful product introductions.
Responsibilities
- Lead embedded firmware architecture, design, and development for new and existing access control reader platforms
- Establish and maintain internal firmware ownership, including source control, development processes, and scalable build environments
- Collaborate with hardware, software, and cross-functional teams to define system requirements and support successful new product introductions (NPI)
- Ensure firmware solutions align with dormakaba's security standards, regulatory compliance requirements, and product governance processes
- Coordinate and manage relationships with external firmware engineering partners while driving the transition to in-house development capabilities
Skills
- Bachelor's degrees in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field
- 5+ years of embedded firmware experience
- Expert-level proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems, with experience developing firmware in RTOS environments (ThreadX, Zephyr, and similar platforms)
- Strong knowledge of secure firmware design, cryptographic systems, and the integration of RFID, BLE, OSDP, and related access control technologies
- Experience with STM32 microcontrollers or similar embedded architectures, including firmware optimization for power efficiency, responsiveness, and reliability
- Hands-on expertise with embedded development and validation tools, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers for debugging and testing
- Master's degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- 7+ years of embedded firmware experience
- Experience developing firmware in RTOS environments such as ThreadX or Zephyr
