[Remote] Staff Software Engineer
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Greylock Partners is an early-stage investor known for backing category-defining enterprise security companies. They are hiring a foundational frontend engineer to build an entire frontend platform from scratch, defining architecture and tooling while integrating AI-powered capabilities to enhance user experience.
Responsibilities
- Own the entire frontend platform from the ground up
- Define the architecture, frameworks, and tooling that every engineer after you builds on
- Build the core design system, reusable component libraries, state management layer, and APIs that set the standard for how the team ships product
- Work directly with design and product to turn complex security workflows into simple interfaces — prioritizing speed and flexibility over polish in the early stages
- Design and deliver high-impact features that seamlessly integrate AI-powered capabilities, ensuring clarity, usability, and reliability for customers navigating massive amounts of security data
- Establish the testing, performance, and maintainability practices that keep the codebase production-ready as the team scales
- As the first frontend hire, you'll set the bar for technical excellence and mentor future engineers into the culture you helped create
Skills
- You've done this before — ideally at an early-stage company or a new product line where you had to build the foundation, not just build on one
- You've operated at the Staff+ level (Staff, Senior Staff, or Principal) at some point in your career
- You have deep expertise in React, TypeScript, and modern build tooling and web application architecture
- You think in systems, not just features — you get energy from building the abstractions and infrastructure that make other engineers faster
- You have a strong background in frontend infrastructure: component libraries, build systems, state management, and performance optimization
- You're pragmatic: you know when to architect for scale and when to ship something that works today
- You move with urgency because you understand that at this stage, velocity is a competitive advantage
- You care deeply about engineering craftsmanship; code quality, attention to detail, and thoughtful design aren't afterthoughts for you
