Position Overview

The Remote Inbound Call Center Customer Service Representative is a contract-funded position that may be subject to renewal based on funding cycles. The successful candidate will build meaningful customer relationships via telephone in a dynamic, fast-paced remote work environment. You will deliver excellent customer service, demonstrate product knowledge, and serve both internal and external customers with professionalism and care.

This position primarily involves receiving inbound calls, though occasional outbound calling may be required. You will provide professional customer service and product consultation during interactions with customers, peers, management, partners, and other departments—meeting specific standards and service-level goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive inbound calls and place outbound calls in accordance with established scripts and guidelines.
  • Provide excellent customer service to customers and partners with a high degree of product and service knowledge to meet specific performance standards and goals for both inbound and outbound interactions.
  • Assist the department in meeting customer service goals and service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Achieve all requirements outlined in the Call Center Department Handbook.
  • Serve customers through a variety of channels, including in-person, phone, email, written correspondence, web forms, and chat.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of customer interactions and service provided.
  • Process orders, respond to inquiries, answer questions, handle complaints, troubleshoot problems, and provide information in accordance with established procedures.
  • Provide professional customer service and product consultation during interactions with customers, peers, management, and other departments.
  • Make decisions on customer requests using established guidelines and procedures.
  • Take accountability for following through on all customer issues to resolution.
  • Meet all contract requirements, which may be subject to change.
  • Continuously learn and reinforce current product knowledge relative to customer needs and inquiries.
  • Utilize reference materials to assist in resolving customer inquiries.
  • Maintain the strictest confidentiality and privacy of customer and agency information.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

  • Able to perform all physical requirements of the position.

  • Able to meet scheduling requirements, which may include nights, weekends, holidays, and variable shifts.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

Education

  • Minimum: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in a related field.

Experience

  • Prior customer service experience is desired.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills is required.
  • Prior use of Assistive Technology (such as JAWS and MAGic for visual adaptation) is desirable, when applicable.
  • Bilingual capability is a plus.

Skills and Competencies

  • Must be able to type a minimum of 30 words per minute.
  • Ability to perform data entry duties while simultaneously serving customers and at other designated times.
  • Ability to keep all customer information in the strictest confidence and follow security procedures regarding customer data.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include nights, weekends, holidays, and variable shifts.
  • Ability to interact with customers with respect, empathy, and consideration of their unique needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in partnership with others.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.
  • Ability to accept constructive feedback and adapt accordingly to meet the needs of the position.
  • Ability to learn and demonstrate knowledge of products and services supported.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Proficiency with internet navigation and web-based tools.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to sit, stand, type, and focus on computer work for long durations.
  • Must be able to listen and speak to customers for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
