Carter Lumber is seeking a Commercial Component Designer responsible for creating structural frameworks that support roofs, ceilings, and walls in commercial building projects. This role ensures drawings are produced accurately and on schedule based on customer‑provided blueprints. It requires knowledge of commonly used concepts and practices within the construction industry. A strong belief in the mission and goals of the company are necessary to this position. Requirements: Knowledgeable in the basic aspects of construction Previous experience using truss or component design software High level of knowledge in the application of the products being designed Competency in basic mathematics, geometry, and trigonometry Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural plans Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills Strong verbal and written communication skills Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook

Responsibilities

DesignCreates design illustrations based on blueprints to produce working drawings for fabrication Works with a variety of materials to create trusses, beams, wall panels, and other structural components Completes and finalizes designs for production and assembly Evaluates designs to ensure all design standards and requirements are met Analyses and TroubleshootsReviews and analyzes specifications, blueprints, engineered drawings, and related documents to determine factors affecting the design of commercial walls, truss, and engineered wood components SupportCommunicate with production teams, customers, and Store Managers to ensure designs remain accurate throughout the process Assist stores in responding to customer questions and concerns Benefits (full-time employees) Health, Dental, Vision (Single and Family Plans) available after 30 days of employment Short and Long-Term Disability Company-paid life insurance and AD&D Optional supplemental life insurance Company-match 401(k) Vacation time and paid holidays Vendor incentives Room for growth; we promote from within!
