[Remote] Legal Counsel

They are seeking a privacy-focused Legal Counsel to oversee their data governance framework and ensure compliance with US regulatory requirements while supporting the company's operations and global expansion.
Responsibilities
- Lead the refinement and management of US data security and privacy programs, ensuring alignment with federal and state regulatory expectations
- Oversee internal and external compliance assessments; work closely with cross-functional teams to proactively identify, track, and remediate data security risks
- Refine and maintain robust policies regarding data access, retention, and cross-border transfers, ensuring technical workflows meet stringent legal requirements
- Partner with cross-functional teams (e.g., technical, product, and operational teams) to integrate high privacy standards into the development of all US-based products and services
- Manage legal risks associated with vendors and partners, ensuring that data-sharing ecosystems adhere to the company's rigorous security standards
Skills
- J.D. degree from an law school and active membership in a US state bar
- 4+ years of legal experience, specializing in privacy and data security
- A background that includes both a law firm and an in-house role in a highly regulated tech or consumer-facing environment is ideal
- Significant experience navigating complex federal or state regulatory environments or implementing compliance programs
- Ability to translate complex legal requirements into actionable guidance for technical teams; familiarity with industry-standard security frameworks
- Exceptional project management skills and the ability to work independently in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities
