Capital One is changing banking for good and is seeking a Sr. Director of Technical Program Management to lead programs that deliver on critical business goals and build large scale products and platforms. The role involves driving the strategy and execution of complex, cross-functional programs while leveraging technical acumen and engineering experience to influence roadmaps and drive platform consolidation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technology focused discussions with senior leadership by providing valuable insights and recommendations that guide technology-based decisions
  • Drive the strategy and execution of large-scale, technically complex, cross-functional programs aligned with Capital One’s business priorities
  • Break down complexity and organizational silos
  • Dive deep into system design and architecture
  • Make technical tradeoffs
  • Drive platform consolidation
  • Identify, resolve, define, and escalate mitigation plans for hard technical dependencies
  • Build and lead a world-class team of technical program managers
  • Simplify the technically complex and drive well-educated decisions across product, engineering, design, and data science representatives
  • Focus on execution, follow-through, accountability, and results
  • Collaborate across different functions, organizations, and reporting boundaries to get the job done
  • Utilize strong technical backgrounds to proactively identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the delivery lifecycle
  • Apply exceptional communication and collaboration skills
  • Implement a quantitative approach to problem solving
  • Exhibit highly tuned emotional intelligence and deep seated empathy for teams and partners

Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 9 years of experience managing technical programs
  • Strong technical backgrounds (ideally building highly scalable platforms, products, or services) with the ability to proactively identify and mitigate technical risks throughout delivery life-cycle
  • Experience building and leading a world-class team of technical program managers with a mission to power real-time, intelligent experiences for our customers and associates
  • Lead technology focused discussions with senior leadership by providing valuable insights and recommendations that guide technology-based decisions
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills
  • Excellent problem solving and influencing skills
  • A quantitative approach to problem solving and a collaborative implementer to holistic solutions; a systems thinker
  • Ability to simplify the technically complex and drive well-educated decisions across product, engineering, design, and data science representatives
  • Deep focus on execution, follow-through, accountability, and results
  • Exceptional cross-team collaboration; able to work across different functions, organizations, and reporting boundaries to get the job done
  • Highly tuned emotional intelligence, good listener, and deep seated empathy for teams and partners
  • 9+ years of experience designing and building data-intensive solutions using distributed computing
  • 5+ years of experience in building distributed systems & highly available services using cloud computing services/architecture - preferably using AWS
  • 5+ years of building & leading experienced TPM team
  • 5+ years experience building highly scalable mobile products & platforms
  • 5+ years of experience with Agile delivery
