Robot/PLC Programmer
Job Description
Step into a high-impact contract role where your automation expertise will directly keep complex production systems running at peak performance. This is an opportunity to tackle challenging controls and robotics projects across diverse industrial environments in Nevada, working with leading-edge PLC, HMI/SCADA, and robotic platforms. About the Role: You will be responsible for programming, configuring, and optimising PLCs, robots, and HMI/SCADA systems to support reliable, safe, and efficient automated operations. Working closely with maintenance, engineering, and production teams, you will diagnose issues, implement robust solutions, and support new installations and upgrades. Your work will help minimise downtime, improve system performance, and ensure compliance with industrial safety and documentation standards. Please note: Direct experience working within a Tesla manufacturing environment is a mandatory requirement for this position. Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, modify, and optimise PLC programs (e.g. Allen-Bradley, Siemens) for new and existing automation equipment.
- Program and integrate industrial robots (e.g. Fanuc, ABB, KUKA or similar) including motion paths, I/O, and interface with PLCs and safety systems.
- Configure, develop, and update HMI/SCADA screens, alarms, and data logging to support operators and maintenance teams.
- Perform on-site troubleshooting and root cause analysis of automation issues, implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Configure and support industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus) to ensure reliable communication between control devices and systems.
- Apply and uphold industrial safety standards, including lockout/tagout procedures, in all control system work and modifications.
- Create and maintain technical documentation for control logic, network architectures, and system configurations in line with change management processes.
- Support commissioning, testing, and handover of new or upgraded automation systems to operations and maintenance teams.
Key Requirements:
- Must have prior experience working at Tesla or within a Tesla manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience in PLC programming and debugging with platforms such as Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens in an industrial environment.
- Hands-on experience with robot programming and troubleshooting on major platforms (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA or similar).
- Strong background in HMI/SCADA configuration and development, including alarms, trends, and user interface design.
- Demonstrated ability to perform systematic troubleshooting and root cause analysis on complex automation and control systems.
- Practical knowledge of industrial networking protocols (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus) and related configuration tools.
- Solid understanding of industrial safety practices and lockout/tagout procedures in a production or manufacturing setting.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control system drawings to support programming and diagnostics.
- Strong documentation skills and familiarity with structured change management for control system modifications.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience integrating vision systems, barcode/RFID, or other advanced sensors into automation solutions.
- Exposure to MES, historian, or data analytics tools connected to control systems.
- Familiarity with safety PLCs, safety relays, and functional safety concepts (e.g. SIL, PL).
- Experience working across multiple industries such as automotive, food & beverage, packaging, or logistics.
- Ability to support remote diagnostics and guidance for on-site technicians.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls/Automation, Mechatronics, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Formal training or certification on at least one major PLC platform (e.g. Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens) preferred.
- Robot programming training or certification (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA or similar) advantageous.
- Relevant safety training or certification (e.g. OSHA-related courses, LOTO training) beneficial.
