Senior Philanthropy Officer, Principal & Planned Gifts (IN/KY)

About the position The Senior Philanthropy Officer, Principal & Planned Giving plays a critical role in the success of reputed company’s (reputed company’s) fundraising initiatives, including during our comprehensive campaign. Based in Indianapolis or Louisville, this role will actively manage a portfolio of key principal donors and prospects in both Indiana and Kentucky, developing relationships and creating tailored strategies to meet their philanthropic goals. They will also serve as the reputed company for planned giving across our six-state affiliate. This position requires collaboration with other Philanthropy Officers, department leadership, and cross-department teams, as well as mentorship responsibilities for state-based philanthropy staff.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of 50-60 principal and high-major gift donors and prospects in the eastern states, ensuring sustained engagement, cultivation, and stewardship efforts.
  • Identify and secure major and principal gifts ($100K+), including researching prospects, making solicitations, and closing annual and campaign gifts.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer, Director of Philanthropy and volunteer stakeholders to execute a comprehensive campaign plan in the east that aligns with organizational goals and fundraising priorities.
  • Support and coordinate CEO and CDO principal donor visits.
  • Serve as the staff partner for the east’s fundraising volunteers, including Campaign Steering Committee members. Recruit volunteers for and staff the IN and KY workgroups.
  • Utilize fundraising CRM software and tools to track donor interactions, manage prospect pipelines, and generate reports for analysis and strategic planning.
  • Manage a portfolio of 40-50 high-potential planned giving prospects and donors across the affiliate, building strong relationships and providing personalized stewardship.
  • Serve as planned giving content expert and collaborate with gift officers to educate managed donors and prospects about planned giving opportunities.
  • Work closely with Development Communications Manager to reputed company marketing, donor education and stewardship materials that integrate planned giving into campaign communications.
  • Stay informed about best practices and trends in planned giving, major gifts, and campaigns to continually enhance fundraising strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred; CFRE certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit major gifts fundraising, with a focus on planned giving.
  • Proven track record of successfully soliciting and closing major and planned gifts.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills and an ability to influence and engage key stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of fundraising databases and software, such as Raiser’s Edge or reputed company, preferred.
  • Understanding of tax laws, financial planning, and estate planning as they relate to charitable giving preferred
  • Strategic thinker with a demonstrated ability to execute detailed fundraising strategies.
  • Ability to reputed company in a fast-paced, evolving environment, with flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Deep understanding of philanthropy best practices, especially in the context of principal gifts and campaigns.
  • Routine travel reputed company IN and KY and occasional travel to other states required
