Our culture blends the rigor of a Fortune‑500 enterprise with the agility of a tech‑first startup, offering a dynamic environment where data professionals can shape the future of global commerce. As a remote‑first organization, arenaflex empowers employees to work from anywhere while staying tightly connected through collaborative tools, regular virtual meet‑ups, and a shared mission to deliver unparalleled value to customers worldwide.

Why This Role Matters

In today’s data‑driven economy, the ability to ingest, transform, and deliver massive volumes of information quickly and reliably is a competitive advantage. As a Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will be at the heart of the DataWorks platform—a sophisticated ecosystem that powers everything from route optimization to demand forecasting. Your work will directly influence how business stakeholders make decisions, how partners integrate with our services, and how customers experience faster, more reliable deliveries. This is not just a data entry job; it is a strategic position that bridges the gap between raw data and actionable insight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines that handle terabytes of structured and unstructured data on a daily basis.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and product owners to understand data requirements and translate them into scalable engineering solutions.
  • Develop and optimize parsers, validators, transformers, and correlators to ensure data quality, consistency, and compliance with internal standards.
  • Implement CI/CD practices for data workflows, leveraging tools such as Azure DevOps, Git, and Terraform to automate testing, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Provide Level‑3 support for production pipelines, diagnosing performance bottlenecks, data anomalies, and system failures with a focus on rapid resolution.
  • Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and champion best practices for reusable, modular, and well‑documented code.
  • Partner with external partners and internal stakeholders to integrate new data sources, ensuring seamless data flow across partner ecosystems.
  • Continuously evaluate emerging technologies (e.g., streaming platforms, cloud‑native services) and recommend enhancements that improve reliability, latency, and cost efficiency.
  • Document architecture diagrams, data dictionaries, and operational runbooks to facilitate knowledge sharing across distributed teams.
  • Drive the adoption of data‑driven product features by delivering clean, timely, and well‑structured data to downstream applications and analytics platforms.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience building and operating large‑scale data pipelines in a production environment.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language used for data engineering (e.g., Python, Scala, Java) and strong command of SQL.
  • Solid understanding of distributed data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark, Flink, or Hadoop.
  • Experience with messaging and streaming platforms like Apache Kafka, Kinesis, or Pulsar.
  • Familiarity with both relational (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (Cassandra, MongoDB, Elasticsearch).
  • Hands‑on experience with cloud services (Azure, AWS, or GCP), especially data storage, compute, and orchestration tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex data issues, perform root‑cause analysis, and implement preventive measures.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non‑technical audiences and influence cross‑functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications & Additional Skills

  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in a quantitative discipline.
  • Professional certifications in cloud platforms (e.g., Azure Data Engineer Associate, AWS Certified Data Analytics).
  • Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform, ARM templates).
  • Knowledge of machine‑learning pipelines and familiarity with libraries such as Pandas, Scikit‑Learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
  • Exposure to data‑visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau) and the ability to create dashboards that surface pipeline health metrics.
  • Background in logistics, supply‑chain, or transportation domains, providing context for business‑critical data flows.
  • Track record of contributing to open‑source projects or publishing technical blog posts.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical Mindset: Ability to dissect large data sets, identify patterns, and propose data‑centric solutions.
  • Problem‑Solving: Comfortable tackling ambiguous challenges, designing experiments, and iterating quickly.
  • Collaboration: Works effectively with distributed teams across time zones, fostering a culture of shared ownership.
  • Automation Focus: Passion for eliminating manual steps through scripting, orchestration, and self‑service tooling.
  • Performance Optimization: Skilled at tuning pipelines for latency, throughput, and cost efficiency.
  • Documentation Discipline: Maintains clear, up‑to‑date documentation to support knowledge transfer and compliance.
  • Adaptability: Thrives in a fast‑moving environment where priorities shift and new data sources emerge regularly.
