Key Responsibilities

• Consult with instructors about course materials to determine academic needs and develop effective tutoring strategies
• Be at work during scheduled tutoring times and maintain a regular schedule
• Create a comfortable, respectful learning environment during sessions, promoting active learning and student engagement
• Assist students with their academic needs, providing individualized support and guidance
• Sanitize and clean laboratory equipment and facilities, maintaining a safe and healthy environment
• Develop and implement effective tutoring methods, using best practices and research-based strategies
• Collaborate with instructors and other teaching assistants to ensure consistency and quality of academic support
• Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions, including student progress and feedback

Essential Qualifications

• Course proficiency in biology, as demonstrated by transcript and interview with committee members
• Effective oral, written, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and concisely
• Attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate records and manage multiple responsibilities
• Ability to relate to students and tutor appropriately, with a strong commitment to student success and well-being

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field
• Previous experience as a teaching assistant or tutor in biology or a related field
• Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and with varying levels of academic ability
• Knowledge of best practices in tutoring and academic support, with a commitment to ongoing professional development
