[Remote] Data Protection Engineer
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Tiger Advisory is seeking an experienced Cohesity Backup Engineer to design, implement, administer, and support enterprise backup and recovery solutions using the Cohesity platform. This role is responsible for maintaining the health and performance of backup infrastructures, ensuring data protection compliance, supporting ransomware recovery initiatives, and collaborating with various teams to deliver highly resilient backup and recovery services.
Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain enterprise Cohesity DataProtect environment
- Perform daily monitoring of backup jobs, replication activities, and storage utilization
- Configure and manage: Protection Policies, Protection Groups, Storage Domains, Replication and Archival Policies, Cloud Tiering and Long-Term Retention
- Manage backup and recovery operations for: VMware and Hyper-V environments, Physical Windows and Linux servers, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Databases, NAS workloads, Cloud workloads (AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud)
- Execute backup, restore, and disaster recovery testing procedures
- Perform file-level, VM-level, database-level, and mass recovery operations
- Develop and maintain recovery runbooks and documentation
- Ensure recovery objectives (RPO/RTO) are consistently met
- Design and implement: Cohesity replication policies, Cross-cluster replication, Cloud archive solutions, Immutable backup strategies
- Support cyber recovery and ransomware resilience initiatives
- Participate in business continuity and disaster recovery exercises
- Install, configure, upgrade, and patch Cohesity clusters and software components
- Configure integration with: Active Directory, LDAP, SNMP, Monitoring tools
- Implement role-based access controls and security best practices
- Troubleshoot: Failed backup jobs, Replication issues, Performance bottlenecks, Capacity challenges, Recovery failures
- Perform root cause analysis and provide remediation recommendations
- Manage incident resolution and escalation with vendor support when necessary
- Implement data protection standards and governance requirements
- Support: Immutable snapshots, Threat detection, Backup security hardening, Compliance reporting
- Participate in vulnerability remediation and backup security assessments
- Create and maintain: Architecture diagrams, Standard operating procedures, Backup policies, Disaster recovery documentation, Knowledge base articles
- Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, networking, storage, and security teams
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior administrators
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
- 7+ years of enterprise backup and recovery administration experience
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Cohesity DataProtect environments
- Strong experience with: VMware vSphere, Windows Server, Linux administration, Microsoft SQL Server backups, Active Directory integration, Disaster Recovery planning, Backup architecture design
- Experience supporting hybrid cloud environments
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to participate in an on-call rotation
- Experience with: Cohesity FortKnox, Cohesity Cloud Archive, Cohesity Site Continuity, Cohesity Threat Defense, Storage platforms and SAN technologies
- Automation using PowerShell, Python, or REST APIs
- ITIL processes and ServiceNow integrations
